Association of malnutrition and inflammatory reaction in maintenance hemodialysis patients.

Objective: To study the relationship between malnutrition and inflammatory reaction in maintenance hemodia lysis(MHD) patients.Methods: 64 MHD patients were divided into three groups according to the modified subjective global assessment(SGA) score: group A(7～14),group B(15～25),group C(26～35).The level of hemoglobin(HGB),albumin(ALB),C reactive protein(CRP) and transferrin(TF) were compared among different state of nutriton of MHD patients.The levels of ALB,TF,HGB and the score of modified SGA were compared among different state of inflammatory(elevated CRP group and normal CRP group) of MHD patients.Results:With the severity of malnutrition,the contents of HGB,ALB,TF tended to decrease(P0.01) while the level of CRP tended to increase(P0.01) in group A,B and C.In elevated CRP group,the contents of HGB,ALB and TF were significantly lower than that of normal CRP group(P0.05~0.01),and the score of the modified SGA was significantly higher than the normal CRP group(P0.01).Conclusion: Malnutrition is closely related to inflammatory reaction in maintenance hemodialysis patients.The level of CRP increases with the degree of malnutrition,and positive correlation is observed between them.
