Abstract
Transport for people living in small villages is of major importance. The distances between these villages, and the distance between the villages and big cities, is relatively great. Without transport the distances are difficult to cover. Bicycle, moped and the car are the most common transport modes, but for people for whom these transport modes are not available, public transport is the only solution. The need for mobility is different for each person and depends on their activities. The need for mobility is determined individually and is not determined by the possibility of available transport. The availability of private transport or public transport determines how far the need for mobility can be fulfilled. In this report a study is described in which the effects of a number of different hypothetical levels of provision for public transport on people's pattern of activity are studied. With a computer simulation an attempt is made to arrange the days of the week for the different persons in a household in such a way that they can continue activities which involve travelling by bus when the bus timetable is modified.
