Abstract

The aim of the research optimalisation of the function of public transport (FOPTIMOV) is to develop methods to evaluate the functions of public transport (social function, substitute function, commercial function), as well as the application of these methods on a case. Six variables for the offer of transport in a future urban transport system are developed, each for a special function. There are three hypotheses developed. Public transport offered to people who have no car can be divided into two groups, one for the people which are bad or steady on their legs. For the first a good door to door transport should be offered. To get the people out of their car a public transport system aimed at the generic reduction of vehicle kilometers is the best. The most cost efficient public transport leads to a public transport offer in which the tariffs are doubled, the basic frequency is decreased, no higher frequency is offered in peak hours, and the stop distances are greater.
