Abstract

The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) was created in 2003 by an act of the Florida Legislature. The Authority’s mission is to coordinate, develop, and implement a viable regional transportation system in South Florida that endeavors to meet the desires and needs for the movement of people, goods, and services. SFRTA originated as the Tri-County Rail Authority, which operated “Tri-Rail” commuter rail service since its inception in 1989. SFRTA continues to operate Tri-Rail and its supporting shuttle buses, and is seeking to define and establish its role beyond the existing commuter rail service.
