Abstract

Tharuvaikulam is a fishing village near Tuticorin \non the southeast coast of Tamil Nadu. Fishing by \nbottom-set gill nets is carried out off Tharuvaikulam \nalmost round the year. Normally, the swimming crab \nPortunus pelagicus dominates the catches. But at \ntimes lobsters are also encountered in the catches \nin good numbers. Two species of lobsters namely, \nPanidirus omatus and P. homarus constitute the \nlobster fishery off Tharuvaikulam coast.
