Production of Guava seedlings by stem cuttings in different containers and substrates

Abstract

Experiment was conducted in a greenhouse to evaluate the influence of different substrates and containers in the productions of guava (Psidium guajava L.) seedlings by cutting. The cuttings were potted in polyethylene bags whit sizes of 8.0 x 14 cm (R1), 12.0 x 16.0 cm (R2) and 15 x 21.5 cm (A3), using (S1 ) 100% of organic compound, (S2) 86% vermiculite and 14% of organic compound, (S3) 86% soil and 14% of organic compound, (S4) 86% thin coconut fiber and 14% organic of compound; (S5) 86% large coconut fiber 14% of organic of compound and (S6) 86% Plantmax ® and 14% of organic compound. The experiment was developed in a randomized design in a split-plot with three replications and five cuttings by plot. The plots were containers (R) and the subplots were the compositions of the substrates (S). At 70 days after planting (DAP) the substrates were similar to the percentages of live cuttings and percentage of cuttings with leaves. For the percentage of cuttings with callus, the substrate with large coconut fiber showed more values than substrate with soil. The container with the largest volume improved packing the cuttings.
