Abstract

Much has been written about the impact of deregulation and privatization of public transportation on the industry and on passengers. This article looks at the effects of deregulation on the transportation authorities, primarily those in the largest conurbations outside London between 1986 and the present day. It also briefly reviews the new arrangements that are being introduced by the Transport Act 2000 in Great Britain.
