Abstract

We investigate the relation between the opening angle and the sum of the kinetic energy of two protons, one of which is emitted into the backward hemisphere and the other into the forward hemisphere in the lab, in ..pi../sup -12/C interactions at 5 GeV/c. The result can be considered an indication that one of the possible mechanisms of the cumulative production of protons in the momentum range 0.2--0.6 GeV/c in ..pi../sup -12/C interactions is the absorption of slow ..pi.. mesons.
