ORGANIZING FOR REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION OPERATIONS: NEW YORK/NEW JERSEY/CONNECTICUT TRANSCOM

This is one of six case studies exploring regional cooperation among transportation operating organizations. These studies, developed in conjunction with the National Dialogue on Transportation Operations, document alternative approaches for developing and sustaining regional transportation operations and portray institutional practices and lessons learned. They provide examples of experiences that reflect National Dialogue goals of facilitating cultural transitions within transportation operating entities that are driven by system performance and customer service measures. They are intended to serve as a resource guide for decision makers as well as transportation management and operations staff. TRANSCOM is a coalition of 16 transportation operations and public safety agencies in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut metropolitan region dedicated to providing a cooperative, coordinated approach to regional transportation management. TRANSCOM members are responsible for operating limited access highways, commuter rail, daily trains and buses, tunnels and bridges, airports, port facilities and bus terminals.
