Abstract
This is one of six case studies exploring regional cooperation among transportation operating organizations. These studies, developed in conjunction with the National Dialogue on Transportation Operations, document alternative approaches for developing and sustaining regional transportation operations and portray institutional practices and lessons learned. They provide examples of experiences that reflect National Dialogue goals of facilitating cultural transitions within transportation operating entities that are driven by system performance and customer service measures. They are intended to serve as a resource guide for decision makers as well as transportation management and operations staff. Houston TranStar is a partnership between the Texas Department of Transportation, Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, City of Houston and Harris County that coordinates regional transportation and emergency management in the Houston metropolitan area.
