Abstract

The article describes the Boston Regional Survey, which was specifically intended to provide the basis for the major regional transportation planning effort currently underway. The survey presents a comprehensive and detailed investigation of the transportation system and of population, land use, and economic patterns in the region. A summary of some of the major survey results is presented. Particular emphasis is given to public transportation, commuter railroads, and highways. Study conclusions are discussed as well as proposals for future planning.
