Abstract

It is very important to develop an energy-saving ship in order to improve the economical situation of coastal transport in Japan. The hull form development of the 699 G.T. oil tanker which is very popular in coastal transport was carried out from 1986 to 1987. According to the results of the hull form development conducted using five ship models and some theoretical calculations, remarkable power savings of 18% under fully loaded condition and 17% under ballast condition were achieved.
