Abstract

The Rufbus research program consists of two objectives: (1) the further development of the communication, control and data processing technique; and (2) the introduction of an adequate service, suitable fares, and the training of skilled personnel in cooperation with the existing public transport services, especially Deutache Bundesbahn d.a. The d.a. bus will serve the area with few inhabitants and low demand and will feed the line haul bus. The advantage of demand responsive bus systems over bus lines is that the system knows when and where transport is needed and the vehicles can travel along routes which correspond to the actual need.
