Abstract
The geometric design of a road affects various cost factors such as the cost of construction, vehicle operation, travel time and accidents. The purpose of this paper is to quantify these costs by means of local and overseas research. Optimum geometric standards can then be determined by using economic analysis techniques. General guidelines are possible in some cases, but in others, as a result of varying construction costs, separate analyses are necessary. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 288720.
