Abstract
The authors have been delivering toll collection machines for expressways and toll roads in Japan and overseas for many years. Currently in Japan, there is a growing need for unmanned tollgates to reduce operational costs at expressways and toll roads. The authors have been trying to realize the booth-less tollgate system, which can make toll gate traffic lanes unmanned, by combining an automatic toll collection system with the electronic toll collection (ETC) system. This time, the authors introduce a technical achievements in an effort to enhance the service quality and security measures at tollgates.
