Abstract
At the institute for Rural Road Construction, Technical University of Munich, theoretical investigations and field tests were carried out to determine the required thickness of an the stress on full-depth asphalt pavement in comparison with the structures standardized in 1966 which had a bituminous roadbase containing rounded aggregate. In order to facilitate economic application of the full-depth asphalt pavement, calculation for three different bearing capacity values (plate loading values) of the subsoil was carried out within the framework of the theoretical investigation. The result of this study shows that, given a subsoil bearing capacity corresponding to the minimum values of EVZ = 450 KP/square cm, the full-depth asphalt pavement needs to be between 30cm (very light traffic) and 43 cm (very heavy traffic) thick. It is apparent from the in situ tests as well as from the theoretical tests that the full-depth asphalt construction method is superior to the corresponding standard construction method as regards bearing capacity. /TRRL/
