Abstract
During the course of conducting an Alternatives Analysis study for District 4 of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) in Broward County, Florida, questions were raised regarding how transit agencies have resolved issues with local communities during planning and implementation of light rail systems. Six peer metropolitan areas were identified. Transit agency and consultant staffs familiar with the development of light rail transit projects in those cities were interviewed regarding the types of issues faced and how they were resolved. The paper describes how Broward County has the opportunity to take the lessons learned from other systems and apply it to the development of the Central Broward East-West Transit Analysis.
