Abstract
Transit officials in Atlanta, Georgia are working to improve the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA). In 2012, a transportation referendum failed to pass that would have helped fund an expansion to the system. A management and operations audit revealed inefficiencies and difficulties in the same year. MARTA had been struggling for several years up to that point, especially during the recession. It became necessary for MARTA officials to make changes to improve the operation and image of the transit system. They named a new chief executive officer in October 2012 and have been working since then to address budget issues, accountability, and customer services.
