Abstract

In this article, the author describes the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) and transit in general, through the eyes of MARTA CEO Beverly Scott. The article examines the public image and perception of MARTA, funding for transit, and the difficulty in the state of Georgia, which does not provide funding dedicated to transit. Other issues covered include the importance of a complete system that incorporates both bus and rail, and the importance of good pedestrian connectivity.
