Abstract
This paper addresses architectural issues resulting from integrating Advanced Traveler Information Systems and Advanced Public Transportation Systems. Various samples of the required functions are presented. The functional variety, the wide assortment of information sources and end users, numerous communications mediums, and varying subsystem implementations demand a highly flexible architecture. These requirements contribute to the use of an Open System Architecture which provides the necessary flexibility to integrate both the Advanced Traveler Information Systems and Advanced Public Transportation Systems.
