Abstract
The article discusses a resurfacing project on a four-lane street through a busy commercial section of Wichita. A heavy-duty pavement tape was used for marking center lines and lanes; the key equipment in the operation was a Cutler repaver. Operations began with the 30-ton repaver moving down a closed section of roadway, where it broke up old asphalt, mixed it with new, and laid a 12-foot wide strip of fresh asphalt. This operation occurred all in one pass at a rate of one-quarter mile per day. A two-man crew followed behind, inlaying pavement tape with a special applicator. One worker pushed the applicator while the second followed with a finish roller that tamped the tape into the warm asphalt. Completed sections were reopened for traffic the same day.
