FUTURE TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT: THE DOT COM APPROACH

This paper deals with the technology that can be used in traffic management and its applicability in India. Better information provision aids management decisions. Higher mobility can be provided not only by greater motorisation but also by public and other shared transport, while parking problems and traffic congestion are major urban difficulties. Modern technology considered includes transport systems and traffic law enforcement systems. Future possibilities include traffic management working in conjunction with intelligent cities to provide a fully integrated approach; this is expected to include emission sensing and control. Technologies such as global positioning systems and geographical information systems should work together with telematics to make travel easier and more pleasant for the road user.
