Abstract
Nearly 600,000 bridges span gorges, rivers and other obstacles across the U.S., ranging from small timber structures in rural areas to majestic, towering landmarks, such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. ACEC asked its members to name the best bridges in America, and more than 200 great bridges were recommended. This article describes twelve of these Best Bridges: The Golden Gate Bridge; Houston Ship Channel Bridge; Glenwood Canyon I-70 Bridges (Colorado); Clark Bridge (Alton, IL); Tom Moreland Interchange (Atlanta); Yaquina Bay Bridge (Newport, OR); Father Louis Hennepin Bridge (Minneapolis); Roosevelt Lake Bridge (Arizona); Rainbow Bridge (Niagara Falls); The Brooklyn Bridge; Wire Bridge (New Portland, ME); and I-95 Over the James River (Richmond, VA).
