Abstract

The accessibility in cities for handicapped persons in discussed in this paper. A resolution concerning accessibility to public transport is dealt with. It requires that the design, planning and building of means of public transport should take into account the difficulties for hancicapped people to commute. Moreover, it draws the attention of transport companies to measures facilitating the use of public transport by handicapped people, the assistance that transport staff can provide and the difficulities and dangers which should be removed, reduced or avoided in the various sections of public transport. The resolution also stresses the development of aid from public and private organizations to severely handicapped persons who are virtually unable to gain access to means of public transport and who require provision of transport.
