Abstract

A road alignment method is proposed which is based on a simplified perspective analysis of the horizontal and vertical geometric components of the road. Reiterative examples are used to compare the results of the perspective analysis with existing fixed standard values in Italy and Switzerland. Differences between the proposed and standard values in terms of design speeds, are summarised in tabular form. Though the method was developed for use on a computer it is also suitable for ordinary graphic interpretation techniques. (TRRL)
