Abstract

In this paper, the personal computer-based road alignment consistency evaluation program is described from the road user's perspective. The interactive PC-based system VIA SOFT is specially made for road design engineer as efficient and valuable tool in the road designing process for the preliminary and final design. The complete program includes six menu driven subprograms: curvature profile, design speed profile, superelevation, acceleration and jerk profile, sight distances profile and surface drainage gradients profile. Basic parameters for road alignment consistency evaluation are coefficients of geometric and dynamic homogeneity as indicators for alternatives evaluation. Output results are available in numerical and graphical mode on different output devices.
