Abstract
The Oeresund rail link between Sweden and Denmark allows trains to run from the Arctic to the Mediterranean without a break. The 16-km rail and road link across the Oeresund between Copenhagen and Malmoe has led to development and integration on both sides. The freight operator IKEA Rail AB began operations on the Oeresund bridge in 2002. Oeresundsbro Konsortiet is responsible for operation and maintenance of the coast-to-coast rail line and all related costs. Operating experiences are discussed with reference to safety and incident levels, traffic volumes and reliability. Oeresundsbro Konsortiet's business plan is described. One of the key activities of Oeresundsbro Konsortiet is to create a viable rail transport system for existing and future rail operators crossing the Oeresund rail link.
