THE EXIT, AN UNCLEAR CONCEPTION

Traffic law and jurisprudence, where exits are concerned, are not clear in the Netherlands. Misinterpretation in the question of priority is the dangerous result. After giving many examples and definitions the author comes to the following recommendations: -as there are road laws and traffic laws in the Netherlands, they should use the same terminology. -conceptions such as exit, entrance etc. Should be defined as well as conceptions such as road, public road etc. They should be used in both sorts of laws. -if the exit of a closed area is a public road, however short, and meets another public road, these two public roads are equal, no matter how the layout of the junction is designed. Priority shall be determined by signalisation. -only if a busy footway runs alongside the main road some problems may arise. A zebra crossing may then be the solution. (TRRL)
