Abstract
This report describes and evaluates an advanced paratransit system demonstration project. It is comprised of an automated trip scheduling system (ATSS) and automated vehicle location (AVL) equipment. Observations from the use of the ATSS included: reduction in paratransit operation costs; higher percent shared rides; and lower personnel salaries. The observed benefits of the AVL system included: reduced personnel workload and stress; enhanced operation and management functions;, and, the capability to monitor vehicle on- time performance. Potential longer term benefits are also discussed.
