Abstract
This document is a literature review from an on-going project which is assessing the state of passenger intermodal operations and services in California and identifying areas where Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) can be used to make improvements. Findings from the literature include: motivating factors for an intermodal system; barriers to implementation; support received from policy measures; development of intermodal terminals; intermodal performance evaluation; linking transit with intermodalism;; and implementing an intelligent intermodal system.
