Abstract
The Strategic Highway Research Program's Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) program is nearing a time of transition. April 1992 will mark five years of effort by the LTPP research team and cooperating highway agencies to get the LTPP studies under way. In June 1992, day-to-day management of the LTPP program will be transferred from the National Research Council (NRC) to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Under FHWA management, with advice from the NRC, the program will complete the remaining 15 years of research to provide data critical to improving the performance of roads. This article looks at what the LTPP program has achieved as it approaches the end of its first phase.
