Abstract
During the 1986/87 financial year the responsible road authorities in the state of Victoria, Australia introduced a formalized roadside hazard management program aimed at reducing the incidence and consequence of vehicle collisions with fixed roadside objects. The program is based on a cost-effective approach to the identification and treatment of roadside hazards on both new works and existing road sections. This paper details the background to the adoption of the current program, provides a description of the lengths and types of treatment it is hoped to implement in the first year of operation. For the covering abstract of the symposium see IRRD 810782. (Author/TRRL)
