This article profiles and analyzes the past and the future of the MTA Long Island Rail Road in New York City. The article contains detailed metrics on the railroads current daily passenger counts and major hubs. A section on the railroads eastern expansion lays out the companys plans for increased track counts and tunnel infrastructure. The article also explains how the railroad intends to accommodate a new wave of reverse commuters with additional track plans for the next 20 years.
