HUNGARY'S PUBLIC TRANSPORT SYSTEM

The article provides a brief analysis of Hungary's public transit system. The country's population is 10 million, with Budapest having two million inhabitants and several smaller cities with populations under 500,000. For the long distance carriage of passengers, the most commonly used modes of travel are rail and road; from the overall number of passengers carried, 155 million people traveled railway and 518 million by bus, the waterways carried 2,2 million passengers, while 2 million traveled by air. The article recognizes the increasing importance of the public transit system owing to economic and environmental factors and emphasizes that only a reliable, well functioning and reliable system can be expected to satisfy individual travel needs.
