Abstract
The article describes how passenger rail agencies will give equipment builders about $2 billion worth of new business this year. More than 1,100 new passenger cars will be ordered, ranging from Viewliners for Amtrak to streetcars for Sacramento, and locomotives for commuter roads. This will be in addition to the car backlog carried over into 1991 and the rebuilt equipment for the New York City Transit Authority, New Jersey Transit and Chicago Transit Authority. This article describes some of the activity at various transit agencies: Amtrak, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, Los Angeles County Transportation Commission, Toronto Transit Commission, San Diego Metropolitan Transit, New York City Transit Authority, Long Island Rail Road, and Metro-North Commuter Railroad.
