Abstract
The report deals with the main types of joints in concrete roads (contraction joints, expansion joints, longitudinal joints and transverse construction joints) and the problems associated with them. It also includes discussion of the junction between rigid and flexible pavements, joint sealants, joint movement, continuously reinforced concrete pavements, remedial work at joints, and information storage. Alternative load transfer systems to dowels are discussed. Conclusions are drawn and recommendations for research are made. The report deals principally with UK practice but also draws on international experience. (Author/TRRL)
