Abstract
One task of the naval architect is to design ship forms with a minimum resistance. This can be achieved by mathematical modelling but only with difficulty, so that physical models are normally used for hydrodynamic problems. This paper has for its subject the use of computer science for the rational and automatic management of research data obtained from towing tanks. After brief general comments attention is given to process control in two specific applications: the evaluation of passive stabilising tanks and the direct determination of wavemaking resistance.
