Abstract
This article describes the construction work on the Gateway Bridge, Brisbane. The bridge has a main span of 260 m with with balanced cantilevers of 130 m either side of the river piers. The river structure is a cast in situ concrete box girder constructed by balanced cantilevering from pier 6 and pier 7. The main span of 260 m is some 20 m longer than the longest box girder previously built anywhere in the world.
