Abstract
A brief history of the Budapest public transport system is given. The city boasts a 1,221 km system combining metro, tram, trolleybus and bus routes. New lines are planned for the 1990s and design specifications are being developed for its 100 year old tunnel which is suffering the effects from heavy traffic.
