Abstract
During the 2012 Olympic Games in London, 12 million spectators traveled to and from venues on public transport. This article provides a summary of the effort to ensure the safe and reliable transport of these athletes and visitors. Transporting these huge crowds required years of planning and infrastructure construction, but the end result has left a long term legacy that should benefit London travelers and residents for years to come. This legacy includes £6.5 billion in permanent transportation enhancements. In addition, developments made to the Transport for London’s planning and forecasting tools will also support improved planning of everyday services as well as future events.
