DIFFERENT THINKING ON PARKING AND GARAGING

The problem of the parked car can only be solved if the relationship between physical planning and the social reason for use of the car is acknowledged. The interaction between traffic and transport and the functioning of the town centre, should lead to an equilibrium. In considering accessibility and mobility it must not be assumed that all car drivers are shoppers in the town centre. All transport modes should play their role. A limiting condition is the spatial absorption capacity of the centre. Car traffic needed for the functioning of the centre must be dealt with systematically. Cars used for housing, delivering or work should be able to get as near to their destination as possible. Cars for visiting the centre must be parked at the border of the centre, and there must be a good public transport to the centre. The cooperation between the different authorities must be better.
