Abstract
This paper describes an adaptive cruise control (ACC) method that is based on the desired safety headway distance. This new method regulates the additional throttle opening and braking torque of only the driving wheels. The paper describes how the headway distance sensors are selected, and how the desired safety headway distance and the desired deceleration are determined. An ACC flowchart and simulation, in addition to signal misinformation and its resolutions are also described.
