Abstract
The paper describes the need for the establishment of site supervisory teams on major contracts, the setting up of such teams, and some aspects of site procedure. The individual approach of authorities and consultants varies enormously, both with respect to the degree of supervision, the actual procedure adopted on individual sites, and the degree of responsibility given to the engineer's representative. It is to be hoped that the paper will provide some food for thought and discussion and more particularly that it may be of use to young engineers supervising a contract for the first time. The need for supervision of major works is explained as are some of the problems that face a resident engineer both in the office and on the construction site. /TRRL/
