Abstract
About 30% of the traffic accidents on main roads are directly connected with access roads. The problem seems bigger in Norway than in other countries, due to scattered settlements. The consequence of this high accident rate must be that the development of settlements along the main roads is evaluated in connection with the transportation importance of the particular road. Data from the public roads administration show that only 1.3% of the main road network is without access roads. The aim must be to reduce the integration of local and long distance traffic in places where this is possible. /TRRL/
