Abstract
In the coming decades, linking aviation and rail transportation systems together into a more efficient and seamless intermodal system will not only be a convenience, but a necessity. This paper describes the trends driving rail-aviation links to the forefront of urban planning strategies, highlights the special challenges that these linkages present for security management within the Federal Aviation Administration's national planning framework, and offers recommendations for intermodal facility design and management.
