Trunk road 55: lithgow to gulgong

On 30 and 31 may, 1985 the traffic and safety department of the nrma conducted a survey of trunk road 55 from the great western highway north to gulgong. The survey indicated a high proportion of narrow pavement and shoulders, and many lengths of substandard pavement, shoulders and pavement edges. Various other works, including the construction of additional overtaking lanes, and bridge and subway widenings, were also required. As with the previous 1977 survey, it was concluded that a large increase in available funds is required to upgrade this road to an adequate standard (a).
