TRAFFIC CONTROL AND WORKSITE SAFETY: ATSSA WORKING TO STREAMLINE NCHRP-350 IMPLEMENTATION

An American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Task Force is working to coordinate industry response to a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) rule concerning work zone traffic control devices. The FHWA rule is based on a mandate from Congress in the 1991 ISTEA to make highways safer. The rule states that certain work zone devices must be tested and proved to meet safety standards set forth in a 1993 Report 350, Recommended Procedures for the Safety Performance Evaluation of Highway Features, published by the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP).
