Abstract

Based on Bierley car-following theory, a dynamic traffic flow simulation model of five vehicles was established. Utilizing the Matlab software, the traffic flow time series of five vehicles was generated. Variation process headway and speed difference between the front vehicle and the following vehicle were analyzed. The simulation results were analyzed in theoretically with real traffic flow. The influence of the model parameters on the dynamic characteristics of simulation traffic flow was discussed and the chaotic characteristics of short-term traffic flow were proved theoretically. Results show that the more sensitive the following vehicle driver is to relative velocity and headway between the front vehicle and the following vehicle, the more easily chaos is generated.
