Analysis on the epidemiological factors of human soil-transmitted nematode infection in Hebei Province, China.

Abstract

Objective To understand the epidemiological factors related to infection with soil-transmitted nematode.Methods15 pilot sites were randomly selected from 6 counties of Hebei Province. Modified Kato-Katz's thick smear and cellophane tape swab techniques were used for detection of soil- transmitted nematode infection.ResultsExamination of 7 316 people were carried out. The total infection rate was 1.85% in crowd, the infection of Ascaris lumbricoides was main, the infection rate was 1.60%, the infectors of Trichuris trichiura and Hookworms were lower; the infection rate with E. vermicularis among children below 12 years was higher, the infection rate was as high as 19.77%. Compared with the results of this survey with that of the first nationwide survey in 1990, the overall infection rate decreased remarkably, but the infection rate of E. vermicularis among children maintained higher level.ConclusionClimate change, improvement of economic situation, changing of sanitary conditions and dietetic habits had certain influence on the infection of soil-transmitted nematode in crowd.
