Abstract

The article explains how the fast freight (RA) system applied to individual cars has been modernized and made more competitive by: a special organization of through freight trains including those of the Trans-Europ-Express Merchandise network; the identification of 294 network yards (out of 4,000 sales points) as starting and ending points for RA forwardings; and the reduction or even the suppression of intermediate marshalling yard operations.
